Donna L. Elder

Donna L. Elder received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA in 1976 and completed her training as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) and was certified in 1979. In 1989, Ms. Elder was NCC certified in Reproductive endocrinology and infertility nursing. In 1998, she completed her master’s degree in nurse-midwifery at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. and was ACC certified in 1999. Ms. Elder began her career as a nurse practitioner in a private OB/GYN practice in Pittsburgh, PA. As her interests in reproductive endocrinology and infertility grew, she became the Clinical Coordinator of the In-Vitro Fertilization Program in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at Magee-Women’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. On moving to the D.C. area, she joined the George Washington University Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology as the clinical coordinator of the In-Vitro Fertilization Program 1983.

Later she became the director and clinical coordinator of the Osteoporosis and Menopause clinic in 1984, before deciding to return to a private practice setting. She worked with two large OB/GYN private practices in Woodbridge, VA for 20 years before joining Gynecology Associates of Fredericksburg, VA in 2005.

Ms. Elder takes pride in being an advocate for women regarding their health care issues. She is considered by many to be thorough, sensitive and compassionate. She does an exceptional job of helping all feel comfortable when they are in the position of being a patient in a GYN office, whether it is for the first exam or for continued care. Her expertise goes for beyond routine GYN care, having extensive experience in hormonal issues, menopause, osteoporosis, infertility, donor insemination, menstrual disorders, abnormal pap smears (evaluation and treatment), and all contraception options.

Ms. Elder successfully completes continuing medical education and has maintained certification requirements for both her certification as a WHNP and a Nurse Midwife.

Ms. Elder lives in a Spotsylvania County with her husband and two very lovable, but very bad dogs. She has a not so healthy obsession with shoes and handbags (as many women will understand). She also enjoys reading and feeding the birds (and squirrels). She is particularly happy when the hummingbirds are in Virginia and is very responsible when it comes to keeping the feeders clean and fresh for them.
